Amharic is the official language in Ethiopia. More than 83 different languages and 200 dialects are spoken throughout the country. The largest ethnic and linguistic groups are the Oromos, Amharas, and Tigrians. English is the most widely spoken foreign language and is the medium of instruction in high schools and higher institutions. Some Arabic, Italian and French languages are broadly spoken in Ethiopia. |
